Record number of visitors for 'Petra. Wonder in de woestijn' (Petra. Miracle in the desert)

The exhibition ‘Petra. Wonder in de woestijn’ in the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden managed to draw 170,000 visitors in five months’ time.
This makes the exhibition on the cultural miracle of Jordan the most successful of its kind in the history of the museum.
The previous record was held by the exhibition ‘Farao’s van de zon’ (pharaoh’s of the sun) which drew over 131,528 visitors in 2000-2001. The exhibition also brought success to the city of Leiden.
93% of the visitors came from outside of Leiden.
