Hillegom is situated in the middle of the bulb fields, a village brimming with local history. The village pump and the adjacent Courtyard which is now used as a town hall, refer us to the ancestors of the present baron of Hillegom Jan Six X. They initiated the excavation of the sand dunes surrounding the village, making it possible, years later, to cultivate vegetables and bulbs. Now, during the spring months it is possible to enjoy endless bike rides and walks between colourful fields. Another special feature is the route along the winding “Hillegommerbeek”, a brook where it seems as though time stood still. Hillegom is known for its numerous handicraft products. There is an outdoor swimming pool, indoor ski slope, paintball / laser tag hall, Ford Museum, two pick-your-own fruit and vegetable farms, an excellent shopping center and restaurants where you will always receive a friendly and hospitable welcome. Hillegom is an excellent choice for a visit. The train station in Hillegom has good connections and ideal for anyone needing public transport.
